Make the library part of your Saturday morning routine. This Books for Breakfast program began in October 2011 at the Hampstead Public Library. It has been generously funded through a grant from Target, is designed to provide families with time to reconnect.

Every other Saturday, the library will provide breakfast, books, crafts, and the chance to win a great prize. All you need to do is come to the library anytime from 9:00 to 11:00 between soccer games, music lessons, errands, etc. and spend some quality time with your family.

Books for Breakfast will be offered the following Saturdays through May of 2012: January 7, January 21, February 4, February 18, March 3, March 17 and March 31, April 14, April 28, May 12 and May 26th.  Each Saturday will have a different theme with special surprises.

We hope you can stop in the library and take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Paws to Read

Monday, June 11th at 4 PM

Grades K-4

Come to the library on Monday, June 11th from 4:00 to 5:30 to meet our favorite canine buddy, Johnny Claude.

If your child is a reluctant reader who hates to read aloud or a future acting star who loves to dramatize a book or a creative writer who makes up stories, Johnny Claude is the right audience for them.  He’s a beautiful big black standard poodle who is also a certified therapy dog and he loves to listen to kids read or tell stories or act out a book.  He and his person, Gretchen, will be at the library to listen to kids do their thing.  He’s a wonderful audience because he’s totally non-judgmental and won’t correct pronunciation or anything else.

Please sign up your child at the front desk or call the library at 329-6411 to set up a fifteen minute session with Johnny Claude the Listener Dog.

READ TO RIDE AT THE RYE AIRFIELD

Kids who love to skateboard or do BMX riding can earn a free trip to the Rye Airfield simply by reading five books. Pick up a Read to Ride bookmark for each book you read, tell a librarian about the book after you've read it and have the bookmark stamped.
When you have accumulated five stamped bookmarks, take them to the Rye Airfield for a fun filled free day of riding or boarding.
